News from the Missoula Cultural Council

Hope everyone is surviving the heat!

 The Missoula Cultural Council is gearing up for our 19th annual Germanfest celebration, once again the celebration will be held in September at Caras Park, stay tuned for details.

This month's First Friday is jammed packed with events and fantastic artist's all over town. This month's sponsor is Rita Gray at Lambros Real Estate located 400 N. Higgins Avenue suite C, the art of Kevin Fredenberg and Emily Hall will be featured.

Missoula Art Museum

Visit MAM for First Fridays from 5-8 PM. Montana Triennial: 2012 artists Joel Allen and Toni Matlock will speak about the work that was selected for inclusion in this year’s juried exhibition. These artists have featured works with a large presence in the Triennial installation, yet each has a very different artistic approach. Following the talk, time will be set aside for Q and A. The Dana Gallery is proud to continue the tradition of bringing artists from around the country to paint the beautiful Missoula Valley and surrounding landscape. Pleine air artwork from this event, as well as new studio work are now up in the gallery through the month of

The plein aire work, as well as studio work from each artist, will hang in the gallery from July 12-August 312012.  First Friday”, August 3rd,  features the public opening of the show.

and Missoula scenes freshly painted by the talented and diverse group of 20 artists from the west and beyond participating in the 2012 "Paint Out!" .

Not Your Everyday Ritual, Seth Green

Exhibition runs August 3-31, 2012

In Not Your Everyday Ritual, Seth Green will address the issues of everyday objects and special use pottery. Seth will present ceramic vessels that are removed from the everyday utility of pots we use for eating or drinking. The function of the pottery in this exhibition will elevate the atmosphere of a daily ritual or ceremony, and differentiate the sacred from the mundane.

Ivette is world-traveler who has chosen to make Missoula her home.
Born into an artistic family and being a world traveler, Ivette is constantly surrounded by creativity.
The colours, textures, cultures and nature that she is exposed to, have inspired this show.
Ivette is donating a percentage of the proceeds from the show to AniMeals.

Prudential Montana Real Estate presents the work of photographer John Mercer. John  is a fourth generation Montana native who fondly remembers many summers spent at the family cabin on Lake Inez in the Seeley Swan Valley. As he grew up, photography was a family affair starting with a Kodak Brownie camera and then an Instamatic. John and his brothers set up their own dark room in the family home.

The Montana Natural History Center is pleased to announce a First Friday Gallery Opening for Sam Case. Using the mediums of oil and wood, Sam seeks to communicate messages of self-evaluation and inspire viewers to connect and relate to non-human beings. The show will run through August.

The Pattee Canyon Ladies' Salon is having its thirteenth annual group art exhibition on August 2,3,4, and 6, with an opening reception on Thursday, August 2 from 5:00 -7:30 p.m. The exhibition will take place at the Brunswick Building, 223 W. Railroad Street, and will feature studies from the figure in various media, including pencil, oil pastel, oil paint gouache, fabric, and ceramics. Anneke will present her incredible gig poster art,  she will also unveil a new poster for a highly anticipated upcoming show. The Total Fest people will be there as well to sale TotalFest passes and give you a taste of what to expect at this year's fest.

The ZACC will also host free family silkscreening that night.
