This project is dedicated to connecting the Missoula Art Community to Downtown property owners by way of Storefront Art and Exhibitions in vacant commercial spaces. The goal is to allow short term exhibits in empty downtown storefronts to demonstrate Missoula''s commitment to the arts, while beautifying downtown areas and allowing artists a unique canvas. It also highlights Missoula's arts and cultural organizations to celebrate their contributions to our community. This first storefront celebrates the Zootown Arts Community Center. The Dana Gallery is hosting the eighth annual Paint Out beginning Friday, July 16h. Painting plein air, literally “in the open air” will be twenty artists from the region . They take the challenge of working in the elements- heat, shifting light, and moving subjects, like horses that turn around just when you’re trying to finish the coloring of light on their manes- for love of capturing a single moment of time in the painting. Plein air artists follow in the footsteps of the French Impressionists from the late 1800s and the early 1900s American artists from the coast and southwest who followed the railroads west, painting scenes that informed the nation of Western grandeur. The Dana Gallery is proud to continue the tradition of plein air work through sponsoring this annual event. The plein air work, as well as studio work from each artist, will hang in the gallery for one month, July 22nd-August 31st . The show opens with a private reception for sponsors on Wednesday, July 21st.
